It’s incredibly important to care for your child’s teeth from a young age. As well as establishing a good oral care routine – using a toothbrush like the Bugbrush and a minty toothpaste twice a day will help, it’s also good for your child to get the correct nutrients from their diet.
As well as avoiding bad food, such as refined sugar, it’s imperative for your child to eat food that will make their teeth healthy and strong. There are several foods that can aid good oral health and some of the best snacks include.
Fruit and vegetables
Every child’s diet should include fruit and vegetables. Fruit should be offered as a healthy snack instead of chocolate, crisps and other junk food. Aim for fruit and vegetables that have a high water content, such as pears. Try to limit those with a high natural sugar content like raisins, however it’s a good idea to brush your child’s teeth after consuming these to protect their teeth. Cheese and milk Cheese and milk have a high level of calcium which is essential for strong teeth and bones. Serving cheese with a meal or as a snack is a good way to increase your child’s level of calcium consumption.
Try to encourage your child to drink water instead of fizzy drinks or fruit juices as it’s much healthier for their teeth. If your child is hesitant to drink water, you could try serving them water infused with fruit to get them into the routine of drinking more water.
Avoid sugary, sweet treats
It’s natural that your child may want to eat sugary foods but try to keep these as a treat and ensure they consume them in one go, rather than throughout the day.
